Both too little and too much blood on the test strip can distort the test result. Having trouble getting the drop of blood you need? Don’t squeeze it out, as this will mix the blood with tissue fluid and could give an incorrect test result. Warm or rub your hands to increase blood flow in the fine capillaries of your skin.
6Extreme temperatures
The meter’s technology is designed to give the most accurate readings at room temperature. If you’ve had the meter in a hot summer car, or in your jacket pocket on a freezing winter day, keep in mind that it may take 15–30 minutes for the technology inside the case to reach the correct temperature.
7The amount of red blood cells
If you have anemia or are dehydrated, the amount of red blood cells in your blood may affect how accurate the answer is. Talk to your doctor about what to do in this case.
