Blood glucose meters are generally reliable, but sometimes the number on the display is not correct. It simply shows the wrong number. A number of factors can skew the answer and give you false blood glucose values, here are some.
1The stick
A major error factor. The test strips must be stored and handled correctly to give a reliable value. Has the strip been stored in a hot, cold, humid, dusty place or has it been loose and bent? Did you put the lid on the jar properly? Does the type really fit your meter? Check the date – have the strips become old? Throw away any questionable strips. Also check that the strip has been pressed correctly into the meter.
